Toyota Motor recognized the ability to leak email addresses of 296 thousand T-Connect service customers. She touched those who registered with the service since July 2017 using the mailbox address. T-Connect — is a telematical ecosystem that informs car owners through a smartphone about the location and condition of their vehicles. According to Toyota representatives, « you cannot completely exclude » the probability of third-party access to the server where this information is stored cannot be completely excluded. At the same time, the company insists that the names, phone numbers or user credit card data were not disclosed.

Toyota sees the reason for the leak is that the contractor who developed the T-Connect website accidentally uploaded part of the source code with the access key to the company’s server to the third-party service. In this regard, part of the user data for the period from December 2017 to September 15, 2022 could reach intruders.

There is no information on cases of misuse of this information. However, the company warned that users may encounter spam mailing or phishing.
