Despite the current controversy surrounding ad blockers, YouTube's free version functions flawlessly. However, if you use it frequently, a Premium subscription can be a good value. You may download videos for offline viewing, bypass the majority of advertisements, and use YouTube Music Premium in addition to getting early access to new features.
Five new features were launched by YouTube today for YouTube Premium users. Three of the functions are experimental, but you can enable the other two. Two are currently available to a large audience. What's new is shown here.
Leap Forward
After experimenting for a while, YouTube is moving forward with Jump Ahead. The new function uses artificial intelligence (AI) to identify the "best" portions of a video based on the areas that most viewers swipe to. You can now choose to "Jump Ahead" to this "best" location when you double-tap the player window to advance 10 seconds.
According to YouTube, this feature is initially coming to the YouTube for Android app, but Premium subscribers will soon be able to access it on the iOS app as well.
YouTube Shorts' Picture-in-Picture feature
Changing between apps while watching videos on websites like YouTube is made easier with picture-in-picture mode. PIP will now be available to Android Premium subscribers for the YouTube Shorts that resemble TikToks. Obviously, this will be useful for longer Shorts, but I don't see many compelling reasons to keep 15- to 30-second movies in PIP while using other programs.
shrewd downloads for Shorts (test)
YouTube will automatically download new Shorts to your smartphone if you choose to participate in this experimental function, allowing you to watch them online or off. Although the business didn't say so, I assume that these Shorts would also function in PIP mode.
AI dialogue (experimental)
Additionally, YouTube revealed that conversational AI will once again be available on Android smartphones. When it's available, a "Ask" button will appear beneath films to access YouTube's AI. Even when a video is playing, you can still ask the bot questions and request content that is similar to what you're now watching. Although I don't think this AI will change the game in any way, it's still an intriguing experiment.
Experimental new watch page user interface
The only modification to the YouTube web app for Premium users is the addition of a test watch page. Although they didn't say much about it, YouTube claimed that it will be simpler to discover new videos and interact with comments on the new watch page.
How to enable experimental features on YouTube
Visit YouTube's "New" webpage and opt-in if you would like to try out these three new experimental capabilities, along with any other experimental additions the platform is currently testing.
