Former Yahoo! employee Reyes Daniel Ruiz, who previously pleaded guilty to hacking thousands of user accounts, received five years in prison on probation.

Recall that in September 2019, a 35-year-old resident of the city of Tracy (California, USA) admitted to hacking about 6 thousand user accounts of the Yahoo! in order to search for erotic photos and videos. Ruiz mainly used hacked passwords to access accounts, but in some cases he abused his official access to Yahoo!’s internal systems.

According to a grateful statement, the woe-employee penetrated the accounts of young women, friends and even work colleagues. After hacking the account, he copied all its contents, which he then stored at home.

The man also admitted hacking into his victims' Facebook, Gmail, iCloud, Dropbox, and Hotmail accounts. In total, he uploaded about 1-4 thousand photos and videos with a total volume of 2 TB.

According to Ruiz, he destroyed the hard drive with the stolen data. This fact, as well as the lack of a criminal record, helped mitigate the punishment.

For the time of serving the sentence, the convicted person is allowed to leave his house solely in order to go to the “proven work”, to the doctor or to church. In addition, Ruiz is obliged to pay compensation to his former employer in the amount of $ 120 thousand and $ 5 thousand fine.
